Mediclinic remains most valuable healthcare brand in South Africa

Mediclinic has been ranked the top healthcare brand in the 2017 Brand Finance annual report of the Top 50 Most Valuable South African brands.

This year, Mediclinic is in 16th place out of 50 top South African brands and holds the esteemed position of the highest ranked healthcare service provider in the country. Other large South African brands in the top 20 include large telecommunications providers, banks, supermarket chains and media firms. In the 2017 report, Mediclinic is ranked just above two of the country’s largest financial services providers, Old Mutual and Sanlam, and is ranked five or more places above other valuable healthcare brands, both in the hospital and medical funding environments.

‘We view Brand Finance’s annual report as a good indicator of the sentiment in the market. With Mediclinic maintaining its position as the top healthcare brand in the country, the report stands testament to Mediclinic’s ever-expanding global and African footprint as well as a progressive focus on world-leading medical expertise,’ says Dr Biren Valodia, Chief Marketing Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa.

Brand Finance uses a unique methodology to calculate a brand’s value, which involves estimating the likely future sales that are attributable to a brand and calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for the use of the brand. In other words, what a potential owner would have to pay for the use of the brand if it were not already owned.
